We have adopted the NEW chimpanzee chromosome naming system as proposed by McConkey, 2004 and endorsed by the International Chimpanzee Genome Consortium. This new system renames the chimpanzee chromosomes to correspond to their syntenic human chromosomes. The new system will make comparisons between chimpanzee and human genomes easier to understand.
This table summarizes the human chromosome naming system (left column) and the original chimpanzee naming system (right column).
The NEW numbering system is in the center column of the table and is the one that NCBI uses for chimpanzee RefSeq Sequence records and Map Viewer.
